Millions of Americans get the flu each year. For many people, the flu is a major nuisance. For others, the flu can be much more serious. Also, it can be hard to determine whether or not you have the flu, as the symptoms are similar to those of a cold. All this is why it’s important to get your annual flu shot before the flu season begins! Come see Midlands Family Urgent Care for your flu shots in Papillion NE, with no appointment necessary.
What are the symptoms of the flu?
From year to year, the flu and its symptoms can change. This is another big reason to get a flu shot regularly. Although symptoms can change and vary, the flu has some common symptoms. Some of these include sore throat, cough, and stuffy nose. These symptoms are obvious signs of the flu or a cold.
With the flu, exclusively, you might also feel as though your body is achy and fatigued. You might also have headaches, chills, and/or fever. Some patients might even experience a fever over 100 degrees.
With children, symptoms are similar, but they might also experience diarrhea, vomiting, and/or nausea. Please remember that with newborns, the flu with a fever can be serious, so emergency care at the hospital is necessary.
Is a flu shot safe?
Yes, the flu shot is safe for almost all Americans. There has been extensive research with a long safety record supporting the flu shot. Over the last 50 years, hundreds of millions of flu shots have been given. Some groups of people have specific risk factors that might make it inadvisable to get a flu shot, but most people are not at risk. Here at Midlands Family Urgent Care, we will look at your medical history to determine whether you are at risk.
Some patients are concerned about the side effects of getting a flu shot, but they are minimal. Some of the mild, temporary side effects can include:
- Muscle aches
- Soreness or swelling at the injection site
These effects will wear off quickly and are very rarely a cause for concern. You can come see us if you have any concerns after your flu shot. Also, you cannot get the flu from the flu shot, so this isn’t something you should be concerned about.
How much will a flu shot cost?
For patients with insurance, a flu shot will very likely be covered. Here at Midlands Family Urgent Care, we work with major insurance providers to ensure your visits with us will be covered by your insurance. If you are uninsured, then you’ll find that our self-pay rates are quite reasonable.
